As a female, at some point in time, you will experience menstrual cramps- a symptom that accompanied your monthly reminder of womanhood, better known as your "period." Menstrual cramps causes a throbbing or dull pains in the lower region of your stomach. Most women experience this pain either before and during their menstrual periods, while it is nagging for most, some women experience unbearable pain.

The uterus contracts when you have your menstrual period, in an effort to aid in pushing out the lining.   • Intrauterine device- This is a method of birth control that involves a small, plastic, T- shaped device inserted into the uterus.
  • Pelvic inflammatory Disease- This an infection that attacks the female reproductive organs.
  • Endometriosis- This is a painful condition that causes the tissue lining of the uterus to become implanted outside the uterus.

The primary symptoms of menstrual cramping includes a throbbing and dull pain found in the lower abdomen, and travel through the thighs and lower back. Additional signs may involve, loose stool, vomiting, nausea, and excessive sweating.

  • Use cinnamon to ease menstrual cramping, which helps with its anti-inflammatory and antispasmodic properties. Add cinnamon to your tea or sprinkle on your breakfast foods. 
  • To bring relieve to menstrual cramping, use basil, which possesses a pain-killing component called caffeic acid. You can either seep it in tea or use when cooking. Add two tablespoon of basil to one pint of boiling water. Cover tightly and allow the blend to cool at room temperature. Drink 1/2 to one cup of basil every hour to ease your cramps.
  • Try and avoid caffeine during this period, for some, the oils found in coffee irritates the intestine. The caffeine contained in cola drinks, tea, coffee and chocolate can add to your menstrual cramping increasing your nervous energy. 
  • Taking a magnesium supplement before and during your period will help your body effectively absorb more calcium. Calcium is greatly associated with lessening the amount of pain menstrual cramping brings. 
  • To make sure you have fewer issues with menstrual cramping, take a decent amount of vitamins and minerals. Take multiple mineral and vitamin supplement, especially one that provides the body with calcium. Choose supplements that deliver in small does so that you can take after meals. 
  • Use ginger as an effective home remedy, during times of painful menstruation. Pound a piece of ginger and boil in a cup of water for couple minutes. Sweeten the infusion and drink three times daily after meals.

  • Take Aspirin or another product that contains acetaminophen to help treat menstrual cramps. Over-the-counter selection with ibuprofen, like Nuprin and Advil, will also provide relief for cramping.
  • Keep a warm bottle close by because if you become dehydrated it will only make your menstrual cramp worse. Drink plenty of water during this time. 
  • Soak a kitchen towel in water and wring out the excess liquid, if you don't have hot water bottle handy. Place the towel in the microwave and heat for a minute. Place on the abdomen and pay close attention not to burn your skin.
  • Place hot water bottle on abdomen to relieve cramps.
  • Ease menstrual cramping with routine exercise, as this practice increases the release of endorphins- one of your body natural method of killing pain.
