Almost everyone has dealt with dry skin at some point in time in their life. Dry skin often occur son the cheeks, lower arms, sides of stomach, face, thighs, legs and chest. Usually , dry skin hydration is needed during the winter time when there is less humidity. If one skin is severely dry it can scale and crack. Home remedies for dry skin can soothe these symptoms.

Causes of Dry Skin

The environment in which you live greatly contribute to your dry skin, including coldness, pollution, humidity levels, and sun exposure. Your hygiene and lifestyle may also play a role. Excessive use of cosmetic and harsh soaps can also contribute to your dry skin. The chemical found in some products you use can rob you of the natural oils your skin needs, as well as rubbing the skin too hard when washing. Other causes includes; Skin problems such as eczema, psoriasis, dermatitis, oil glands in the skin may create less oil, as well as if you have a deficiency in vitamin A, B and E.

  • Apply a leaf of Aloe Vera to your skin by massaging it to help fight dryness. 
  • Mix one teaspoon of avocado and one teaspoon of lemon juice and mix together to apply to your face to take advantage of its healing properties. Apply a blend of the mixture to your face for about 20 minutes. This home remedy cleanses and remove dryness.
  • Use almond oil to soften and remove dryness which provides nourishment for the skin. 
  • Use cucumber which delivers water to help reduce dryness in your face as well as cool it down. 
  • The tannin and and potassium found in apples helps to keep your face hydrated. Apples also help to enhance the skin natural shine and remove dry spots. Grate three apples and apply 20 minutes. Use cold water when washing off.
  • Create a healing paste with one egg yolk and two teaspoons of powered milk, and one teaspoon honey, which treats dry skin on face and neck. Apply paste to affected areas and leave on for 15 minutes. When washing off use cold water.
  • It is suggested to limit your caffeine and alcohol consumption in order to have better skin, since they dehydrate the body.
  • Drink at least 8 to 10 pints of water everyday to keep your skin hydrated. 
  • During wintertime the skin become dry, due to the dry heat. In an effort to keep warm, furnace heated air can reduce the humidity level in your home by 10% or less. Humidity of levels 30 to 40% is needed to keep the skin moist. It is suggested to use a humidifier when you are experiencing this, a small unit kept close to your bed. Close your door at nights to keep the moisture in the air.
  • Pour two cups of colloidal oatmeal into a tub of lukewarm water. You can also mix cooked oatmeal with honey to create a moisturizing cleanser for your face.
  • Check in your bathroom cabinet for some mineral oil, which helps rehydrate skin.
  •  Use petroleum jelly, such as, Vaseline, as a moisturizer for your dry skin.
  • Use some vegetable oil such as peanut oil, sunflower oil and Crisco for your skin if you don't mind feeling a bit greasy, it is a very inexpensive method for lubricating the skin during dry spells.
  •  If you are suffering of chronic dry skin, bath less and use cooler water, hot water has a reputation to diminish your body natural oils. 
  • One of the best way to get back water in the skin is to soak in it. Fill your tub with lukewarm water and soak for 15 minutes.
  • Blend five cups of raw peanuts and just enough milk to create a paste. Add 1/4 teaspoon of honey. Apply to your face and leave to dry. Use cold water when washing off this remedy.
  • Try using mineral water to wash your face instead of tap water. 

Dry skin is no fun, as you lose your healthy shine and battle with other annoying symptoms as well such as itchiness. Consider the above home remedies for dry skin to alleviate parched skin.
