How would you feel after entering a room fill with smoke or after coming into contact with an allergen or pet dander? Imagine running out of breath after taking a brisk walk around the block or doing simple task. Asthma attack the bronchial tubes, providing life threatening circumstances for some people. Unfortunately, more than 4,000 people die from this disease each year, which makes treatment and remedies quite important.

What is Asthma?

Asthma strikes when inflammation and constriction attacks the airways of your lungs, which is your bronchial tubes. The muscles of your bronchial walls starts to tighten, which triggers an overproduction of mucus, which causes your airways to block.

There are two types of asthma to consider, which as, allergic and non- allergic. Allergic asthma mean that various triggers can cause an asthma attack such as dust, smoke, chemicals and like pollution. Non- allergic asthma patients can suffer an asthma attack by just exercising, laughing or having a stressful day.

Overall an asthmatic trigger differs in each patients and can includes, cockroaches, respiratory infection, food allergies and cold air.

Typical signs of asthma includes;

  • Shortness in breath
  • Pain or tightness in chest
  • sleeping difficulties
  • coughing and wheezing
  • Exhalation brings a noticeable wheezing or whistling sound

Remedies for Asthma

  • During pollen season, shut your windows to avoid coming in contact with pollens, to bring on an asthma attack.
  • Leave the grass cutting to someone else if you suffer from asthma. When the task is done head inside to avoid an attack.
  • Taking 50 milligrams of B6 has been proven to reduce attacks of asthma.
  • Take salmon oil or eat salmon two to three times a week to help treat symptoms.
  • Having a fury pets such as cats and dogs can lead to increasing asthma attacks. While the pet hair isn't an issue, its the dead, dry skin flakes hidden in the coat called dander is the problem. Dander packs a powerful punch to an asthmatic, leaving you gasping for air. If you have a pet avoid them from entering your bedroom to keep dander from further compromising your health.
  • The particles that comes from a fire place or a wood stove can affect the lungs of an asthma patient. If you going to start a fire make sure the room is highly ventilated and chimneys is in tip top shape. 
  • Smoking tobacco products is a no-no if you are an asthmatic patient. The same applies for being around smoke, especially in an enclosed space with little or no ventilation. If you live with someone who smokes, your asthmatic symptoms will worse and certainly have a detrimental effect on children. 
  • Sleeping with a full stomach can cause problems for asthmatics. Before going to bed, avoid the stomach acid that cause asthma attacks by sleeping on an elevated pillow and taking an antacid before going to bed.
  • Consume lots of vitamin C to help fight infections and increase the amount of oxygen you receive, and reduce inflammation in the airways. 
  • Keep an eye out for food additives that companies put in foods. Metabisulfite, found in dried shrimp, fruits, and wine coolers and monosodium glutamate better known as MSG have been linked to causing asthma symptoms.
  • Boil 10 cloves of garlic in 30 milliliters of milk at the early stages of asthma. Drink the  mixture once a day. Another remedy for asthma is adding two minced garlic to a hot cup of ginger tea. Take the mixture at morning and in the night to keep your symptoms under control.
  • Some asthmatic patients suffer an attack just by eating a specific food, its important to watch your diet. It is not uncommon to see egg, nuts, milks and sea-foods cause a asthma attack. 
  • Drink juice from half of a lemon by diluting it in a glass of water to treat your asthma.
  • Holding a jar of honey under your nose after inhaling the scent can cause easier breathing.
  • If you keep your mouth open while exercising and gasping for air can unknowingly encourage an asthma attack. The back of your throat can become dry and cool- a common trigger for asthmatics. When taking a run or enjoying aerobics keep your mouth close and breath through the nose.
  • In case you misplace your inhaler (let's hope not). Two cups of strong coffee will work wonders on an approaching asthma attack. Caffeine will dilate your bronchial airways.

There are no cures for asthma, but luckily the symptoms are controllable. The first thing you need to do, is know the circumstances that triggers an attack. Tracking your symptoms can help your avoid undesirable situations. When your are looking to help ease symptoms and prevent an attack, incorporate the above home remedies to help you.

Very informative, I had no idea that B6 could help reduce the chance of asthma attacks. My grandson has this condition and must keep an inhaler with him at all times. I will pass this information to my daughter. Thanks for an awesome Hub.
